Porcelain Veneers
Veneer is a thin cover of porcelain that is made to be bonded to the surface of the teeth. It is useful in closing gap between teeth, masking undesirable marking or stain, realigning crooked teeth or changing the shape of the teeth. They look highly aesthetic because of the translucent nature of the porcelain. When bonded to teeth, their physical property is quite similar to teeth. It takes at least 2 visits to complete the transformation using veneers. The first visit involves preparation of your teeth, taking impression and making a temporary veneer. The second visit is when the final veneer is bonded to the teeth. Some dentists place veneers made of composite resin, white filling material, however, there are more prone to stains but they can be done in a single visit and can be repaired when broken.
Whitening
Stains that permeate into the interior of teeth will make them appear yellow or dark. These are called intrinsic stain. Certain condition during teeth development can also stain teeth, for example, tetracycline antibiotics ingestion during childhood. These stains can’t be removed by air polisher but can be lightened with whitening or bleaching agent. The most effective way is by professional in-office whitening performed by your dentist. It takes slightly more than 1 hour. Alternately, you may use a take-home kit and DIY at home. Most of the professional whitening has the temporary side-effect of sensitivity. It lasts about 24 hours.
Full Ceramic Crown
Crowns are indicated when teeth were damaged due to cavity, fracture, wear and tear etc. Conventional porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown usually shows a dark grayish margin near gum line. In addition, the colour of the ceramic tends to be opaque and flat. Most people do not mind this for the back teeth. However, if your gum line shows when you smile, then ceramic crown may be a more pleasing choice. New generation of ceramic crowns made from Zirconia are as hard as PFM crowns perfect as alternative to PFM crowns.
